Last week we learned that the BMW 1 M Series Coupe would be the new MotoGP Safety Car because we saw it sail for Qatar for the first race. We were impressed by its appearance, but knew little about the car responsible for bringing order from today between Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and co.
Today BMW M has made official details of the new BMW 1 Series Coupe M MotoGP and do not think it is a unit "check" and now. For starters it is noteworthy that the production car, just keeping the engine Twin Turbo inline six-cylinder with 340 horsepower and chassis.
One of the goals in creating this unique unit 1 Series BMW M Coupe has been reduced to a minimum weight set. Thus the body is made of carbon fiber, according to the original model forms in all parts except the front cover which has special air intakes.
The front and rear windows have been replaced by other lighter polycarbonate, which is that the windows of the cars is where it's easier to save weight without too many changes.
The complete line of Akrapovic exhaust is signed and made of titanium. At the rear wing now sports a huge dimensions, with leveling downforce depending on the need to back in each of the circuits of the championship.
Inside is the closest thing to a racing car I've seen this week. The rear seats have gone to make way for a roll bar and roll bars that leave from the B pillar of the car back. The front seats are in turn replaced by a bucket competition with six-point harnesses.
The flywheel keeps the original forms, but in this case is lined in Alcantara leather, like the BMW M3 CSL. To complete the inside, a fire extinguisher at the foot of the post of companion reinforces its role as the safety car racing in MotoGP.
The suspension has been tightened to make it faster if possible, and 19-inch wheels with tires measuring 255/35 in front and 285/30 at the rear tires now mounted circuit-specific without being slick.
To safely stop the machine, the brake system 1 Series BMW M Coupe is replaced by another competition also with six-piston calipers.
Not to feel alone by circuits around the world, the BMW 1 M Series Coupe MotoGP will be joined by eight other BMW vehicles that will different functions at the races, including a BMW X6 M, BMW X5 M BMW 535i Touring and BMW X6 ActiveHybrid.
